Barry was one of only 30 skaters who qualified to compete in the Excel Intermediate Plus Women’s finals out of 194 skaters vying for a spot from across the nation. She arrived in Boston ranked first in the USFS Excel Eastern Region, ranked fourth nationally – and achieved third place in the highly competitive event in Boston.
Coached by Sherry Robbins and Lauren Masterson, Rebecca also had to qualify for State Games of America by placing at the Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY.
“Rebecca is a hard worker and puts her heart and soul into skating,” Robbins said. “She’s a very talented skater.”
A member of the Figure Skating Club (FSC) of Watertown, Barry travels from her home in Utica, where she attends Notre Dame Junior Senior High School to skate in Watertown and other area rinks to train year-round. This coming season Barry will start to compete in the National Qualifying Series.
The FSC will return home to the Watertown Municipal Arena September 16. A non-profit dedicated to providing opportunities for participation and achievement in figure skating, the club boasts professional USFS and Learn to Skate certified, award-winning coaches, who provide instruction for all levels and ages of skaters, from private lessons to introductory group classes.
