Community Members Invited to Assist Local Restoration Project at El Dorado Preserve in Henderson, NY.

Volunteers are needed to assist a restoration planting on November 9th, from 10 AM- 3 PM at El Dorado Preserve trail head, located off Grand Jean Road in Henderson, NY. The restoration project is led by the St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM). No experience is needed to participate, instruction and tools will be provided. Participants will walk a flat trail through forested and field settings approximately 0.3 miles or 10-15 minutes each way. A variety of native plants will be planted in an open field where invasive species have been removed. Master gardener programs in St. Lawrence and Oswego Counties have offered their members credit towards annual hours/continuing education for attending.

The St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM), one of eight PRISMs throughout New York, is funded by the NYS Environmental Protection Fund in coordination with the NYSDEC and various partners, and hosted by The Nature Conservancy, with a mission to protect native habitats, biodiversity, natural areas, and freshwater resources, emphasizing prevention, early detection, rapid response, education, and outreach. They provide region-wide coordination for invasive species monitoring and management across terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, and Oswego Counties (outside of the Adirondack Park), as well as portions of the Lake Ontario and northern Oneida Lake watersheds.
