FDRHPO’s “MASH” CAMP APPLICATIONS OPEN

Nov 20, 2024 09:51AM ● By Nicole Petrus

WATERTOWN – The Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization (FDRHPO) will be hosting students from across Jefferson, St. Lawrence, and Lewis Counties during the 2025 Winter MASH Camps at five regional hospitals.

MASH Camp is a unique opportunity for students in grades 8-12 to experience and explore the healthcare industry in an interactive way. By participating in hands-on activities that highlight various career opportunities, students will learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties, and personal qualities of specific healthcare professionals. Additionally, involvement in MASH Camp provides students the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals in their community to build long-term mentoring relationships.

Each of the 2-day sessions (which run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) will help answer questions and provide students with a path to explore their career options in depth. Regardless of facility placement, each day will be different and provide interesting, thought-provoking exercises and real-life experiences, including interactive sessions with local Emergency Medical Services.

“February MASH Camps consist of two full days of observation and interactive activities within a hospital setting. Students have an opportunity to explore a wide variety of healthcare careers,” said Beth Solar, Workforce Outreach Manager at FDRHPO. “MASH Camps are intended to create a spark and inspire students to pursue their educational and career pathways in the healthcare field and let them explore the numerous possibilities within the healthcare sector. This is truly the entry point of the regional workforce pipeline to encourage their interest in science and medicine and provide a glimpse of the real-life ‘in the shoes’ of healthcare professionals. The specific structure and activities of MASH Camps can vary by location.”
