WATERTOWN NOON ROTARY 14 TH ANNUAL SWIMARATHON
Feb 20, 2025 09:03AM ● By Nicole Petrus
The Watertown Noon Rotary Club is excited to announce that the 14 th annual
Swimarathon to support polio eradication is coming up soon. The event will be held on
Sunday, March 2nd from 1-3 pm at the Watertown Family YMCA.
The swim originated in 2012 as part of the Rotary Global Swimarathon to raise
awareness of the threat that polio still presents. As a founding partner of the Global
Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary International has been leading this effort since 1988.
Huge strides have been made but there are still cases of polio in Afghanistan and
Pakistan, and most recently the Middle East situation has compromised immunization
efforts there.
Members of the community are encouraged to sponsor a swimmer and are also invited
to come to the pool the day of the event to cheer the swimmers on. This year there will
be members of the Watertown High School and Y Blue Sharks swim teams
participating, as well as members of the Rotary Club. Donations will be accepted at the
event.
