Watertown, NY – April 3, 2025 – Seven outstanding educators from the North Country have been recognized for their dedication, compassion, and impact in the classroom. NBC Watertown, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, proudly honored these remarkable teachers with the prestigious Classroom Kindness Teacher Appreciation Award at a heartfelt ceremony hosted at Garland City Beer Works in Watertown.
This year’s distinguished honorees include:
David Bernard – Calcium Primary, Indian River Central School District
Dwayne Ghostlaw – Brushton-Moira Central School District
Carissa Dickinson – Case Middle School, Watertown City School District
Emily Rudd – Maynard P. Wilson Elementary, South Jefferson Central School District
Dave Easton – South Jefferson Central School District
Emily Kraeger – South Lewis Central School District
Kimberly Vallentgoed – Madison Elementary, Massena Central School District
Each of these educators has gone above and beyond to create an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring learning environment for their students. As a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication, each honoree received a $250 grant to support their classrooms, generously provided by the Northern New York Community Foundation. Additionally, each recipient was presented with a customized award (created and provided by Stunning Engraving), a swag gift basket (courtesy of NBC Watertown), and a beautiful floral arrangement (created and provided by Jen’s Backroad Blooms).
The awards ceremony was a warm and memorable evening, attended by the honorees’ family, friends, colleagues, and school administrators. Garland City Beer Works provided a delicious meal featuring baked ziti, assorted chicken wings, tossed salad, meatballs, and rolls, ensuring a wonderful dining experience for all in attendance.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the nominations. Each teacher had the opportunity to hear the heartfelt and inspiring words shared by their nominators, some of whom spoke in person. The stories of kindness, dedication, and unwavering support these educators provide to their students served as a touching reminder of the profound impact teachers have on their communities.
NBC Watertown extends its gratitude to the teachers, guests, and administrators who joined in celebrating these exceptional educators. Special thanks to our sponsors—the Northern New York Community Foundation, Taylor’s Surface Prep, and Jreck Subs—whose generous support made this event possible.
Lastly, NBC Watertown would like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a teacher who has made a difference in their lives. Your submissions help shine a light on the incredible work being done in classrooms across the North Country.
Congratulations to all the honorees, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to education and kindness!
