Watertown Lyric Theater Announces Fall Production of Shrek: The Musical and Partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation

WATERTOWN, June 4, 2025 — Watertown Lyric Theater is proud to announce its highly anticipated fall  production: Shrek: The Musical! This family-friendly, larger-than-life adventure will take center stage this  September, promising laughter, heart, and a fairytale experience like no other. 

In a significant show of support for the arts, the Northern New York Community Foundation (NNYCF) has awarded  a $5,000 matching grant to Watertown Lyric Theater. This grant will directly support the upcoming production of  Shrek: The Musical, helping to leverage sponsorships and community donations in support of local theater. 

"We are thrilled to bring Shrek to life and even more excited to partner with the Northern New York Community  Foundation," said Jonathan P. Cole, President of Watertown Lyric Theater. "This matching grant is not only a  generous investment in our organization, but also a powerful way to engage our community and ensure  continued access to high-quality, live theater." 

Through this matching challenge, every dollar donated or secured through business sponsorships, up to $5,000,  will be matched by the Foundation, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution. These funds will help  offset production costs, including costumes, set design, orchestra, venue, and accessibility initiatives. 

“Lyric Theater has a wonderful history of providing opportunities for all ages to explore and develop their talents  in the arts and experience the many elements of bringing a quality production to the community,” said Rande S.  Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. “We are hopeful this grant will encourage and inspire  even more support for Lyric’s work and mission now and for the future.”

Auditions, ticket sales, and additional production details will be  announced later this summer.
