Dining for Charities Donation Supports Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures

Jul 28, 2025 03:24PM ● By Kenzie Shiver

Last week, NBC Watertown had the honor of visiting Camp Serenity—a 76-acre rustic haven nestled in Northern New York and home to Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures (WWOA). The occasion was a special one: to present a heartfelt donation made possible through Dining for Charities, a program dedicated to giving back to our community’s most important causes.

Camp Serenity isn’t just a place—it’s a purpose.

Surrounded by forest, wildlife, and peace, the land offers a sanctuary for America’s heroes: our Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and their families. Here, warriors reconnect with nature and loved ones, finding rest and renewal away from the noise of the world. With five cabins, all generously donated by individuals and organizations, the camp provides rustic accommodations at absolutely no cost to those who have served.

The property itself tells a story—lined with photos, memories, and tributes to veterans who came before us. One story, unforgettable and almost unbelievable, was shared about a Vietnam veteran from Massena. While serving, the soldier was attacked in his tent by a tiger that grabbed him by the throat and dragged him into the jungle. Miraculously, his fellow soldiers acted quickly, gunning down the tiger and saving his life. In an incredible act of preservation and honor, the tiger was later mounted and shipped to Massena for the veteran’s family—a haunting reminder of the dangers faced in war, and the brotherhood that brings our troops home.

Everything at Camp Serenity is built from the ground up by the hearts and hands of volunteers. Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operated entirely by volunteers—no salaries, no overhead—just passionate people united under a powerful mission:

To provide fun outdoor adventures at no cost to our Wounded Warriors, Battle Buddies, Veterans, and their families.

From fishing and hunting to camping and boating excursions, WWOA gives veterans an outlet to heal, bond, and rediscover joy.

At the helm of this impactful work is Bob Giordano, President of WWOA. Since 2009, his dedication—and that of the many volunteers by his side—has touched the lives of countless service members. Every dollar donated, every hour volunteered, and every story shared contributes to a greater good.

As part of our visit, NBC Watertown was humbled not only to witness the mission of WWOA in action—but to be recognized as a part of it. WWOA awarded NBC Watertown with a beautiful eagle plaque, which we proudly and graciously display as a symbol of our continued commitment to supporting those who’ve served.

Join the Mission: Warrior Run – September 13, 2025

One of WWOA’s most exciting upcoming events is the Annual Warrior Run, happening Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Colton, NY (88 Sturtevant Rd). The Warrior Run is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of courage, unity, and resilience. Whether you run, walk, volunteer, or simply cheer, your presence shows our veterans that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

All proceeds from the event go directly toward hosting more therapeutic outdoor adventures for our warriors.
