Wellesley Island, NY — On Sunday, August 4th, the greens of the Thousand Islands Country Club were alive with energy, camaraderie, and purpose as Encompass Recreation held its first-ever Charity Golf Tournament, proudly presented by New York Air Brake.
The tournament brought together 25 spirited Captain and Crew teams for a day of friendly competition, all in support of inclusive recreational programming for youth with higher support needs across the North Country. With near-perfect weather and the stunning backdrop of Wellesley Island, participants enjoyed 18 holes on one of the region’s most picturesque courses.
From the first tee to the final putt, the event was marked by a strong sense of community and shared mission. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless experience, and participants praised both the organization and scenic beauty of the day.
“You could feel the positive energy all day, from the volunteers to the teams—everyone was just happy to be there for a great organization,” said golfer Jared St. Croix. “The course was beautiful, the event was so well-organized, and the swag bags were an awesome bonus. I’ll definitely be back next year!”
The competition was tight, with Bob Johnson’s team taking home first place after posting a score of 55 on the par 71 course. Following closely behind in a tie-breaker was Kyle’s Wigwam, also finishing with a 55. Samaritan secured third with a strong 59. Individual honors went to Chris Andiorio for Closest to the Pin and Shaun Kiley for Longest Drive.
In total, the event raised over $12,000, a significant contribution that will fund year-round sports and recreational opportunities for children and youth with higher support needs.
“This tournament was more than just a day of golf,” said Kylie Schell, Founder and Executive Director of Encompass Recreation. “It was a powerful display of support for kids who deserve inclusive spaces to play, grow, and belong. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who showed up and helped us take this mission even further.”
Encompass Recreation extends heartfelt thanks to its presenting sponsor New York Air Brake, as well as all participating teams, donors, and volunteers who made this inaugural event a resounding success. Plans are already in motion for next year’s tournament, with hopes of establishing it as a cherished annual tradition.
