Step into the Shadows… “A Nevermore Evening” Brings Poe, Prohibition, and Art to Life

Aug 19, 2025 04:44PM ● By Kenzie Shiver

WATERTOWN, NY — Lovers of the mysterious, the macabre, and the masterful pen of Edgar Allan Poe are invited to slip behind the velvet curtain into an unforgettable night of art, intrigue, and prohibition-era glamour. The North Country Arts Council proudly presents A Nevermore Evening, a one-night-only fundraiser celebrating the spirit of creativity, community, and the haunting beauty of the written and visual arts.

Taking place on September 6, 2025 at the Strand Theater in Watertown, this immersive speakeasy-style experience will transport guests back to the roaring 1920s — with a gothic twist. Think candlelit cocktails, shadowy corners, and whispers of “The Raven” drifting through the air.

Guests will enjoy:

● Live performances inspired by Poe’s works by The Butler Did It Players;

● Speakeasy libations crafted by the Traveling Sisters mixologists (password required for entry - age 21+);

● Sumptuous bites by Embellished Catering to complement the evening’s indulgences;

● Poe-themed trivia hosted by Brian Topping Entertainment for fans of the master of the macabre;

● Art exhibits and silent auction items featuring North Country artists;

● Encouraged attire — from flapper flair to gothic elegance.

Proceeds from A Nevermore Evening directly support the North Country Arts Council’s mission to foster and promote the arts across the region, funding exhibitions, classes, and community outreach programs.

“This event is about more than just a great night out — it’s about celebrating art in all its forms, supporting local creators, and giving people a chance to step into a world of mystery and beauty,” remarked NCAC president Anita Prather Harvell. “Poe fans, speakeasy aficionados, and art lovers will all find something to adore.”

Tickets are $75 per person. Capacity is limited, and the password-protected door won’t stay open for long.. Don’t miss your chance to immerse yourself in a night of decadence, darkness, and delight — all for a good cause.
