Nico Spaziani named Jeffrey W. Kimball WHS Class of 2003 Scholarship recipient

WATERTOWN — Nico Spaziani is this year’s recipient of the Northern New York Community Foundation’s Jeffrey W. Kimball, MBA, WHS Class of 2003 Scholarship

 Nico graduated in June from Watertown High School where he was a standout three-sport athlete, competing  in varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. 

 He is attending Binghamton University this fall to pursue studies in business management. He has also  committed to play Division I lacrosse for the Bearcats. Nico aspires to work in the pharmaceutical field. Nico is  the son of Stacy and Vincenzo Spaziani, Watertown. 

 As a soccer player, Nico was a team captain his senior year, a Frontier League All-Star his junior and senior  years, and was named to the Watertown Daily Times All-North Second Team. He is the first Cyclone to be named  to the All-State First Team. 

 On the lacrosse field, Nico earned a wide range of honors, including Frontier League Times All-North co MVP his senior year and All-North MVP recognition in his junior year. He is one of just six Section 3 lacrosse  players selected as a USA Lacrosse All-American. He was also one of three Section 3 athletes nominated for  All-CNY Lacrosse Player of the Year (large school). Additionally, Nico was named as the Watertown Savings  Bank, 7 News North Country Athlete of the Week in April. 

 A top scorer, he generated a league-leading 63 goals while assisting on 33 others for a league-best 96 points  and helped guide the Cyclones to even more success in his senior season. He finished his high school career with  183 goals and 106 assists for 289 career points, ranking him second on the school’s all-time scoring list, trailing  only Kenny Nims. 

 In addition, Nico posted a 93-grade point average, ranking in the top 14 percent of his class. He was a member  of many clubs at school and participated in several community service opportunities, including volunteer service  with the American Heart Association and as a volunteer youth lacrosse coach. 

The Jeffrey W. Kimball, MBA, WHS Class of 2003 Scholarship was established at the Community  Foundation in 2017. A $1,000 award, it is presented annually to a Watertown High School student who is  attending an accredited four-year college or university and pursuing a business degree. Recipients must have  maintained an 85 percent or greater average and demonstrated hard work, determination, motivation and drive.  “Nico is a perfect example of a true student athlete,” Jeff Kimball said. “His work ethic and competitiveness  on and off the field will translate to success in college and in the business world.” 

 Jeff is a proud 2003 Watertown High School graduate who earned a Master of Business Administration from  SUNY Oswego. He is a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual in Watertown.
