Clayton, NY — September 17, 2025 — The Jefferson County Suicide Prevention Coalition is proud to announce that the 2025 Suicide Prevention Walk, held Sunday, September 14, at the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, successfully raised $5,900 in support of local suicide prevention initiatives. This marks an increase from the $4,200 raised in 2024, demonstrating the community’s growing commitment to saving lives and supporting mental health resources across Jefferson County.
The annual walk brings together families, friends, and community members to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and offer hope. Participants joined in solidarity, walking to remember loved ones lost to suicide and to support those struggling, while also raising critical funds for suicide prevention training, education, and resource coordination throughout the county.
“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support this year,” said Beth Solar, Co-Chair of the Jefferson County Suicide Prevention Coalition. “The increase in funds raised shows the strength of our community and its dedication to making sure no one feels alone in their struggles and has the resources needed when in a mental health crisis.”
Over 100 community members attended the annual Suicide Prevention Walk, participating in a walk throughout Clayton. Money raised at the event came from community donations from businesses and individuals, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction. Fifteen organizations from throughout Jefferson County also participated in the event, sharing information on the many services and resources available throughout the county that support mental health initiatives and suicide prevention efforts.
To continue raising awareness about suicide prevention, Mrs. Solar says that the coalition launched Chalk the Walk. This event, running September 14 – 20, encourages business, schools, organizations, and community members to create inspiring messages on sidewalks to show support for those struggling with mental health and to remember the lives of those lost to suicide.
Planning for the 2026 Suicide Prevention Awareness Month events has already started, and Mrs. Solar says that they are looking to expand events to include a color run in Watertown.
The Jefferson County Suicide Prevention Coalition is comprised of health agencies, community organizations, and individual members united by a shared determination to prevent suicide deaths. By working together, the coalition provides suicide prevention training, coordinates local resources, and fosters diverse and inclusive community collaboration to achieve its mission.
