Watertown, NY – Communities across the United States and around the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day each year on March 17, a holiday known for honoring Irish heritage, festive traditions, and gatherings with friends and family.

St. Patrick’s Day commemorates St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. According to tradition, Saint Patrick helped spread Christianity throughout Ireland in the fifth century and remains one of the country’s most widely recognized historical figures.

Over time, the holiday has grown into global celebration of Irish culture. Traditions often include wearing green, attending parades, enjoying Irish music, and sharing traditional foods.

One symbol closely associated with the holiday is the shamrock. Legend says Saint Patrick used the three-leaf clover to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity. Today, shamrocks and the color green are widely used during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

While large parades and festivals are common in major cities, many people celebrate closer to home by preparing classic Irish-inspired meals. One of the most popular dishes in the United States during the holiday is Corned beef and cabbage.
